7 Foods That Naturally Boost Your Energy

You wake up feeling great. You’re knocking out your to-do list and having a super productive morning. The afternoon rolls around and all of a sudden it hits you like a ton of bricks. The overwhelming urge to take a nap. If you need an afternoon pick-me-up, try any of these foods to naturally boost your energy and get you through the day.

1.  Nuts

Loaded with protein, nuts will give you a jolt of energy that will last longer than energy drinks and sugary snacks. Try cashews, almonds, walnuts or pecans.

kiwi
2.  Kiwi

This little fruit packs a big punch of energy. One kiwi has almost 3 times the daily recommended dose of vitamin C, more potassium than a banana, and a healthy dose of magnesium. All of these vitamins and minerals work together to increase energy and endurance. You can peel it and eat alone or add it to a smoothie recipe.

 3.  Green Tea

If you’re trying to cut back on coffee but still want a caffeine fix, then try a cup of green tea. In addition to caffeine, it contains nutrients and antioxidants that improve brain function and decrease body fat.

kefir
4.  Kefir

With the consistency of a smoothie, kefir is a cultured creamy product with a long list of health benefits including energy booster. It’s also loaded with vitamins, minerals, and beneficial bacteria that will boost your immune system. Plus it’s lactose free. You can find in several flavors near the yogurt or milk products at your local supermarket.

5.  Apples

An apple contains natural sugar, fiber, vitamins, and minerals to wake you up, keep you full, and stabilize your blood sugar levels. Smear on some peanut butter and add an even bigger blast of energy.

blueberries
6.  Blueberries

Blueberries are full of the energy boosting mineral magnese. Toss them in a smoothie, a salad, or eat them by the handful.

7.  Water-filled foods

Sometimes it’s dehydration that’s causing your energy to dip. In addition to drinking more water, eating water-filled foods like cucumber, celery, watermelon, tomatoes, and peppers will keep you hydrated and awake.

Got any other natural energy boosters to add to the list?
